The quick side-by-side

Both build serious fitness. The difference is what a workout looks like, and what you are training toward.

CROSSFIT

Format
Constantly varied workouts. Every day is different: lifting, gymnastics, conditioning, and combinations of all three.
Skill level
Includes technical movements like barbell lifts. Coaches teach and scale everything, so beginners are welcome.
Competition
Optional. Most members train for life, not a leaderboard. Competitions exist if you want them.
Community
Class-based. You sweat next to the same crew every week, with a coach running the session.
Programming
Coach-led classes on a daily program built for broad, general fitness.

HYROX

Format
A fixed fitness race: 8 runs of 1km, each followed by a workout station, in the same order at every event worldwide.
Skill level
No highly technical movements. Push, pull, carry, lunge, jump, throw, run. The challenge is pacing and engine.
Competition
The race IS the point. A standardized course means your finish time is comparable anywhere in the world.
Community
Training partners and race crews. Open gym plus coached sessions, often building toward the same race weekend.
Programming
Race-specific: intervals, sleds, carries, and simulations that mirror the event itself.

The honest answer: they complement each other

This is not a rivalry. CrossFit builds the broad strength and conditioning base that makes HYROX stations feel manageable. HYROX gives you a date on the calendar and a finish line, which is the best training motivation there is. Plenty of our members do both: CrossFit classes for general fitness, HYROX training when a race is coming up.

If you want variety, skill development, and a coached class every day, start with CrossFit. If you want a measurable race to train for, with simple movements and a big engine focus, start with HYROX. Either way you are in the same building, with the same coaches who care.

Why Born Ready is the place you don't have to choose

CrossFit Born Ready in Helotes is a full CrossFit gym and an Official HYROX Training Club, one of the few in the San Antonio area. That means real sleds, SkiErgs, rowers, wall ball targets, and marked lanes in a space built for the race, right next to the CrossFit floor.

The HYROX membership is $100/month and includes open gym access and coached HYROX classes. Want your own open-gym build? See our HYROX open gym page. For CrossFit membership options, head to our pricing page.

CrossFit vs HYROX FAQs

Can I do both CrossFit and HYROX at Born Ready?

Yes. Born Ready runs a full CrossFit program and is an Official HYROX Training Club, all in one facility in Helotes. Many members mix both.

Which is better for beginners?

Both work for beginners. HYROX has no highly technical movements, so you can start training on day one. CrossFit includes more skill work, but coaches teach and scale every movement. The best choice is the one you will show up for.

Do I need CrossFit experience to start HYROX training?

No. HYROX stations are simple human movements: push, pull, carry, lunge, jump, throw, and run. If you can jog and carry weight, you can start.

What does HYROX training cost at Born Ready?

The HYROX membership is $100/month and includes open gym access and coached HYROX classes. Full details are on our HYROX Training page, and CrossFit options are on the pricing page.
